In the deep, dark, distant recesses of time ...

... back when I first started spinning up servers for game nights at the shop, I got a request to see what it would take to run a private Diablo II server. A few months later, with the problems ironed out (mostly), we debuted the Diablo II closed realm server (running on PvPGN). Over the years, it migrated from the server at the shop (with the Windows-based gameserver component running under Wine on Linux), to PvPGN on the old server here and the Windows game code running on an old Pentium running Windows 2000, to now both the PvPGN server (on Linux) and the Windows 2000 game server running in VMs.

All through these migrations, I was able to preserve every account created on the server and their personal game progress. So, here you will find the information on how to install and setup Diablo II: Lord of Destruction to either recover access to the characters you previously created, or, if you are new to the server, to start building up your new characters.
